The spirit of Errigal in Donegal has always inspired me. The resilience of weavers of yester years lives on in remote places like this.

Weavers carried their webs to markets in Ardara and Carrick - rising before dawn to get the best price.

I am drawn to the ever-changing landscape for inspiration.

Being resourceful and imaginative helps me draw new energy into my work each time I set out to design a warp, blanket, or scarf. It is always a different path just like the walk up Errigal mountain.

My name is Siobhán Ní Ghallchóir and I grew up in south Donegal.

I weave in Mountcharles, Donegal.

I am inspired by the ordinary things;

evening light, how contrasting elements like rock, rust, stone sit with the softness of new moss.

The road less travelled.

I came to weaving after having worked in administration, teaching, web design, and architecture in different places like Scotland, Spain and Ireland.

I really enjoy the challenge of working for myself and steering my own course. The design process can be as varied or straightforward as I determine and this is a story in itself.

Bringing in colours that hold the inspiration and a pattern that draws interest and punctuation for the viewer, wearer is a good place to start.
