Washing Wool
Gently does it.
If you have purchased one of my handwoven creations - these are some guidelines for your perusal. The key to washing wool is consistency in water temperature, and in handling the item.
If you are handwashing, which I recommend, start with tepid water, add in soda crystals and some wool detergent, allow to dissolve and slowly add your woolen item. Massage the piece - go lightly. Repeat. Wearing gloves is always good practice.
Rinse in the same temperature water that you started with. This will avoid felting the fabric - where the fibres get overly meshed and dense.
Dry a garment, like a sweater, flat or hang a blanket by the selvedge, using several clothes pegs for support.
Longevity is increased and future generations will thank you.
